How These Services Fit Together

Most organisations arrive here needing one thing and discover they need three. A move produces surplus. Surplus needs a decision. The decision needs an inventory. That chain is why these services sit together rather than being bought separately from four suppliers.

Everything below is grouped by what you are actually trying to do rather than by internal department. If a service is not ours, it says so on its page.

The single most useful thing to know before contacting anyone: the constraint that will govern your project is rarely the lifting. It is the date the destination is genuinely ready, the lead time on connectivity, and whether anyone has decided what is not coming with you.

Those three answers shape every quote you will receive, and they are worth establishing before you ask for one.

Relocation by Premises Type

Grouped by premises type, because the binding constraint changes with the building.

Office RelocationThe core office move. Survey, sequencing, crates, desk-level reinstatement, out-of-hours delivery.
Commercial RelocationAny commercial premises: retail, warehouse, showroom, workshop. Start here if you are not moving an office.
IT RelocationWorkstations, network hardware and comms rooms. Port-mapped, rebuilt to recorded configuration.
Data Centre RelocationRacks, cabinets and infrastructure. Planned shutdown, documented elevations, agreed rollback.
Hospital & Healthcare RelocationPhased around clinical continuity, with patient records moved in sequence.
Laboratory RelocationLab furniture, general equipment and cold storage, coordinated around manufacturer commissioning.
School & Education RemovalsSchools, colleges and universities, executed inside the holiday window.
Library & Archive RelocationCollections measured in linear metres, mapped bay to bay, reshelved in classification order.
Public Sector RelocationCouncils and government bodies, sequenced around statutory service continuity.

Planning, Installation and Delivery

The work either side of the move itself.

Assets, Inventory and Storage

Knowing what you own, moving it between sites, and holding it when dates do not line up.

Furniture Asset ManagementPhysical audit, tagging and condition grading. The step everything else depends on.
Asset RedeploymentSurplus at one site meeting need at another, instead of buying replacements.
Commercial StorageManaged storage between moves. Collected, inventoried, returned on notice. Not self-storage.
Document StorageRecords held to your retention dates, retrieved on request, destroyed with certification.

Clearance, Disposal and Reuse

What happens to everything not going with you.

ServiceFor
Office ClearanceFull site clearance with streams segregated on site and waste documentation by stream.
Office Furniture ClearanceContents cleared ahead of strip-out or lease handover, with the dilapidations sequence explained.
IT Asset DisposalRedundant IT audited at serial level, data sanitised, value recovered through reuse.
Office Furniture DisposalSurplus routed to redeployment, resale, donation or recovery, in that order.
Zero Landfill DecommissioningThe waste hierarchy applied in order, reported by tonnage and stream.
Sustainability ServicesThe overview of where environmental impact sits and what can honestly be evidenced.

How a Project Actually Runs

Whichever services you end up using, the shape of the project is the same. Knowing it in advance makes the quotes you receive easier to compare.

Enquiry and scoping. A conversation about what is moving, from where, to where, and by when. This is where we establish which of the services above actually apply, and where we say if part of the job belongs to another trade.

Survey. Someone walks both buildings. Volume is assessed from what is physically there rather than from a floor plan, because storage areas and back-of-house are where estimates go wrong. Access is checked at both ends: lifts, loading bays, stair carries, door widths.

Programme and documentation. A sequence built backwards from the date you have to be operational, not forwards from when packing could start. Method statements, risk assessments and insurance certificates go to both building managers, usually weeks ahead, because late submission is a routine reason for a crew being refused entry.

Execution and sign-off. The move itself, then a walk round with you against the plan, snagging logged, crates collected, and documentation issued for anything cleared or disposed of. The paperwork is the part people forget to ask for and the part an auditor asks for first.

How Quotes Are Built

Every service here is priced on the same three variables, which is why a quote given without a survey should be treated with suspicion.

Volume is what there is. Access is how hard it is to get to. Hours is when you need it done. The three interact: identical volume through a shared lift on a Saturday-only window costs materially more than the same volume with a full weekend and a dedicated goods lift.

A fourth variable applies to anything involving clearance: sorting depth. Segregating reuse, electricals, confidential paper and dry recycling costs more in labour than filling one container, and produces both a better diversion figure and the documentation to evidence it.

When comparing quotes, the differences are rarely in the move. They are in what sits either side of it: reinstatement standard, day-one support, crate collection, clearance, and whether documentation is included. Compare those line by line before comparing totals, because the cheaper number usually excludes one of them.

Where We Work

Continuum Green is based in Manchester and delivers projects across the UK. In practice that shapes a few things worth knowing before you enquire.

For projects in the North West, survey visits are straightforward and a site can be looked at quickly, which matters when a date is already fixed. Elsewhere in the UK, the survey is still done in person, because volume assessed remotely is volume assessed wrongly, but it needs a little more notice in the diary.

Distance affects sequencing more than it affects price. A long-haul move usually means vehicles loading the evening before, overnight running, and an earlier start at the destination, which is a scheduling question rather than a cost multiplier. What does move the number is the number of vehicle loads, and that comes back to volume.

Building access rules vary regionally in ways people underestimate. Parking suspensions carry different lead times by local authority and are longest in central London. Managed buildings in different cities set different out-of-hours and protection requirements. Both are confirmed at survey rather than assumed from experience elsewhere.

Work outside the UK is arranged through overseas partners who execute in country. We coordinate the UK side and hand over.

What We Do Not Do

Rather than repeating this on twenty-three pages, here is the consolidated list of what we do not do.

No fit-out, partitioning, flooring, decoration, or mechanical and electrical works. No principal contractor role on construction projects. No design, space planning or furniture specification, and we neither manufacture nor sell furniture.

No soft strip demolition, and no industrial machinery, production lines or plant requiring lifting operations. No chemicals, pharmaceuticals, clinical waste or anything needing dangerous goods licensing. No decommissioning or recommissioning of warrantied medical or laboratory equipment.

Service Questions, Answered

Questions that come up before anyone knows which service they need.

Which service do we need?

If you are moving an office, start with office relocation. If it is any other kind of premises, start with commercial relocation. Everything else tends to attach to one of those two once a survey has happened.

Do we have to use several of these?

Usually two or three, because a move produces surplus and surplus needs a decision. They are scoped together rather than bought separately, which is normally cheaper than using different suppliers for each.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

As soon as the destination is confirmed. The move itself needs weeks; connectivity provisioning and landlord handover need months and set the real timeline.

Do you work outside Manchester?

Yes. We are Manchester-based and work across the UK. International moves are handled with overseas partners.

What happens to what we are not taking?

It is assessed for redeployment, resale or donation before disposal is considered, and you receive documentation for both the reuse and the waste streams.
